Some went far to the extent of having dinner after 8 pm. Dinner such as rice and eating foods that are high in carbs. I understand you might have reasons such as traffic gridlock from your 9 to 5 work but some lack the habit of preparing their dinner early and eat before 8 pm clock time.

What happens, such high calories food takes much time to digest? Besides, you won’t be able to burn them due to your night activity (low metabolism) which makes you inactive and even perhaps weak and sleepy.
Gradually, the excess calories will be building up fat all over your body and imagine you maintain this bad habit for 365 days, to many years. You can feel what you’ll achieve in terms of weight gain and obesity.
Thus, it’s important you desist from eating late at night and if circumstances warrant it like the nature of your job, always have a light low-calorie meal as dinner. An example of such is a rich nutrients meal like salad.
Always have your compulsory breakfast, lunch and perhaps, snacks in between them. This will prevent you from psychologically or emotional eating too much at night which might be at a late hour.
Example of an ideal dinner is Cabbage salad
1 spring onion or leek, sliced
1 handful fresh green or spinach
2 skinless/boneless chicken breasts
- Chop all the ingredients, place in a large bowl and mix together.
- Add your chopped chicken breasts.
- Dress it with a spread of your choice and place it in the fridge.
Consequence of late night eating
At the 4th Allure Vanguard Women on Wellness (WOW) seminar, a guest speaker at the event was Dr. Oladapo Ashiru, a Professor of Anatomy and Reproductive Endocrinologist.
He gave this healthful warning that foods eaten after 8.00 pm were essentially poisonous to your body.
His remark: “Any food eaten after 8.00 pm is poison, as the intestine shuts down after 8.00 pm. You should try to eat before 8.00 pm to avoid accumulation of undigested foods that are harmful to the organs.”
He went further by expressing that, you should strive to eat dinner before 8.00 pm, to maintain good health and avoid undue strain and stress to your digestive system.
He said it’s ideal to eat slowly, chew well and drink water 30 minutes to one hour after meals to aid food digestion in its real state as water dilutes the nutrients.
His remark “People often violate the rules of the body when they do not follow the law of nature. While it is natural that foods eaten should not go into the digestive system, swallowing our foods straight without chewing deprives the food from being broken down.”
Other consequences are:
- It could lead to acid reflux such as heartburn and indigestion due to the food not properly digested well.
- Like I explain above, it could increase the buildup of fat in your body, especially, when you eat heavy food.
- It could make you feel weak and tired which might affect your night sleep. Sleep is a good time for relaxing your body system and not for a usual task such as food digestion.
In conclusion, don’t be a victim of late night eaters or develop the habit of eating late at night but strive to get your dinner ready before 7pm and eat at a right time.
If you practice early right time by eating dinner and importantly, eat the right type of food, you’ll feel better result on your weight loss journey.
